Sort and Recycle Batteries to Prevent Fires

Summer campfires are fun!

Battery fires, not so much.

Did you know old batteries can spark fires in your home and even in garbage trucks?

So what should you do with them?

Use our Waste Wizard for tips on how to sort, store, and recycle your batteries. And remember: never place batteries in curbside recycling boxes or in the garbage.

Sort, Store, Recycle

Sort!
Separate lithium, button, and 9V batteries. Tape the terminals so they can’t touch and spark.

Store!
Keep batteries in a non-metal container until you’re ready to drop them off. Lithium, button, and 9V batteries should be taped or placed in individual Ziploc bags.

Recycle!
Use the Waste Wizard to find a battery recycling location near you just search “batteries” to see drop-off options.

Let’s keep summer safe for everyone!
