COMPOSTING

Here’s a quick guide to what can and can’t go in your compost:

What Can Be Composted:

All food waste: All food waste: Including breads, meat & bones, fruit & vegetables, dairy and fats.

Food soiled paper: Soiled paper napkins, paper plates, pizza boxes.

Yard waste: Leaves, weeds, small branches.

Keep These Out:

Ashes, plastic bags, coffee cups, cigarette butts, styrofoam.

Important Guidelines:

  • Carts must weigh under 50 kg (100 lbs).

  • Place small twigs inside the compost cart. Bundle and tie larger branches (up to 4 feet long) and place them beside your cart. Additional leaves should be placed in brown paper bags.

  • Use compostable bags for pet waste or wrap it in newspaper.

Helpful Tips:

  • Keep your compost cart out of direct sunlight to reduce odours.

  • Use newspaper or brown paper bags to line your cart for easy cleaning.

  • Freeze meat or fish scraps until collection day during hot weather to avoid smells.
