COMPOSTING
Here’s a quick guide to what can and can’t go in your compost:
What Can Be Composted:
All food waste: All food waste: Including breads, meat & bones, fruit & vegetables, dairy and fats.
Food soiled paper: Soiled paper napkins, paper plates, pizza boxes.
Yard waste: Leaves, weeds, small branches.
Keep These Out:
Ashes, plastic bags, coffee cups, cigarette butts, styrofoam.
Important Guidelines:
Carts must weigh under 50 kg (100 lbs).
Place small twigs inside the compost cart. Bundle and tie larger branches (up to 4 feet long) and place them beside your cart. Additional leaves should be placed in brown paper bags.
Use compostable bags for pet waste or wrap it in newspaper.
Helpful Tips:
Keep your compost cart out of direct sunlight to reduce odours.
Use newspaper or brown paper bags to line your cart for easy cleaning.
Freeze meat or fish scraps until collection day during hot weather to avoid smells.
