Building food security together
In the Fundy Region, we strive to work together to build stronger, more resilient food systems for all. This page shares what we learned during our food security symposium, as well as some helpful resources.
A Shared table: Building food security together
FEBRUARY 26, 2026 | FOOD SYMPOSIUM
The symposium brought together 70+ leaders and frontline organizations working to improve food security across the Fundy Region.
By bringing together people working in food security, the symposium offered an opportunity for participants to share challenges, explore local solutions, and connect with others doing similar work.
What stood out to participants
Participants consistently highlighted five major insights that shaped their experience of the symposium:
A powerful sense of shared purpose and common challenge
The importance of community, dignity and belonging
Inspiration from practical, doable and creative solutions
The value of data, visibility and storytelling
The passion and commitment of people working in food security.
The symposium marked the beginning of a collective effort to strengthen food security across the Fundy region. With continued commitment, coordination, and community leadership, the region can move towards a future where every resident has reliable, dignified access to the food they need to thrive.

The Six DIMENSIONS of Food Security
Food security is a shared community responsibility and a complex issue that touches many aspects of daily life. To create a food-secure community, a range of conditions should work together as we strive to ensure that all residents have reliable access to the food they need to live healthy, active lives. These conditions can be grouped into six interconnected domains, outlined below.

Having the quantity and quality of food available in the food supply (through domestic production or imports) to meet dietary and cultural needs.
02
ACCESS
HOVER TO FLIP
Having the financial means to acquire food for an adequate diet in a way that doesn't compromise other needs.
The ability to use food to safely prepare meals that meet nutritional needs through access to adequate storage, equipment and clean water.
